1st EXCELLABUST workshop was organized as a part of the EMRA'16 - Workshop on EU-funded Marine Robotics and Applications. Following successful events hosted by CNR (Rome 2014) and IST (Lisbon 2015), Newcastle University's School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering organized EMRA on 14th and 15th June 2016 in Newcastle, UK. Organised under EU projects CADDY and EXCELLABUST, EMRA broth together a diverse range of speakers, from ongoing FP7/H2020 projects, industry, end users and stakeholders. The interdisciplinary event provided an excellent opportunity for networking and cross-fertilisation of ideas in marine robotics, enabling technologies and applications.

In a single track conference programme over two days 18 speakers gave their lecture and participated in discussions. Presentations from ongoing EU funded research projects were mixed with presentations from industry and end users.
